I appreciated the architecture and decor, and the breakfast was lovely as was the location. This review is an FYI to future guests that this hotel is run by a man and a woman with minimal interest in hospitality. Some examples. 1. My husband and I were sitting by the pool and my husband went to the front desk area to ask for help opening a bottle of wine. The man there told him there is a bottle opener in your room. My husband said yes I know but as were are now by the pool was hoping to get one downstairs. The man repeated there is one in your room and did not offer to either help him or retrieve one for him. 2. They dont tidy your room or make your bed unless you specifically request it (awkward). 3. There is no laundry service available even though this is a hotel intended to serve people driving the great ocean road, hiking and swimming along the way, who likely need clean clothes. We were directed to a laundromat in town but opted not to spend two hours of our one day there doing laundry at a laundromat. Instead, I hand washed my pants the final night before our flight and asked if I could use their dryer for ten minutes in the morning and was told no. 4. Despite all of this, the final morning my husband, who is lovely and everyone loves, tried again to make pleasant conversation with the woman telling her that he was sad to be leaving Australia, and she didnt even respond, just poured his coffee and walked away. Understand that this hotel is their labor of love....but your vacation and comfort are not the priority. If you dont need anything then youll be fine. Be careful of minibar because some items in it have expired.
We stayed here 3 nights recently and loved it. There are so many special details and touches from the owners that are just part of the normal package. It has a beautifully comfy bed with linen bedding, gorgeous toiletries, delicious breakfasts, privacy and thoughtful interiors. But its more than that - Colleen and John source items for you and the rooms that are good quality, often very local, and have a story. From the welcome cookies (Port Fairy's fair-winning Yoyo!), the hand-made ceramics, the fire set up outside complete with extra wood and blankets, the 'maxi' bar with locally sourced goods (without marked-up prices!) and the top-tier designer furniture (loved the Jardan couch!) it all made our stay feel really special. I'm regretting not grabbing that whole bag of local Yoyos from the room now!
An absolute delight. Room was gorgeous and location suberb. Perfect getaway spot.
Worth visiting all the way from Finland.Edit 27th Sept 2018: we are back! :)
Stayed in Suite 3. It was amazing! Beautiful designed room. Loved the bath. Great location.
